News was received today that lease holders at Caloundra Airport may be able to extend their lease for a period around 20 years. This special permission has been granted by the new State Government. BeCA is keen to see if there are any ‘conditions’ put onto these leases to ensure our lifestyle is not impacted upon by repetitive circuits by aircraft, especially helicopters over our homes.
Several anecdotal reports say the behaviour of helicopters over the estate has improved remarkably. Residents do not mind some over flights but do object to repetitive circuits (especially touch n go’s) which have been known to go for almost all day in the past.
Our Councillor stood for election on a platform which included the creation of a satellite helicopter training facility. The current economic climate would make this a fanciful dream right now but there should be an opportunity for residents to gain some rights. Previously all rights seem to be in the hands of the helicopter pilots. However there have been extremely positive feedback on helicopter behaviour over the last two months.
Hopefully this renewed sense of responsibility by pilots to the sensitivities of residents will continue and we can all learn to live and work together.
