During the thunderstorms which rocked the area early last week there was one almighty crack. The lights flickered, people sat bolt upright in bed and the odd inappropriate word may have been uttered. Most residents felt the strike was so close it was in their own backyard.
The lightning strike hit the taller of two old trees in the park adjoining the estate just to the north. See the photo to the left. (You can click on all photos for a larger view.)
Some of the houses on Cougal Circuit back onto the park.
At least 6 homes suffered some damage from huge pieces of timber which were flung through the air after the strike. Roof damage has occurred to several homes. The photo below left shows one of the large pieces of timber which was flung to the ground following the strike.
Some residents have also reported damage to electrical items following the strike.
