A historic agreement between Sunshine Coast Council and Stockland has been signed which will see the SC Council take control of a newly renovated ‘old Land Sales Office on the lake at Canavan Gracie Recreational Park as a Community Centre to be managed by BeCA.
It is suggested a renovated building will be available to residents by October 2014 if all goes to plan.
A community centre for our residents has been a major aim of Cr Baberowski and he was truly delighted to pass on the news. Council has strict guidelines for its Community Facilities so some extensive work will need to occur before the building is passed on from Stockland to Council.
BeCA fields numerous requests regarding hiring the current building but has had to refer interested persons onto Stockland who are loathe to allow it for hire.
Stockland’s Mark Stephens has also been a strong supporter of the building becoming a Community Resource and he too is delighted with the outcome.
With the building being unavailable during renovation BeCA may need to modify its Public Meeting dates, especially for the September Public Meeting. However Stockland’s Mark Stephens was hopeful there may only need to be a minor juggling of dates if any.
In a time of dour news for residents in light of the recent harrassment of residents by Becker Helicopters, this announcement stands out like a beacon of good news.
