The plan to save motorists from detours around the Bellvista Blvd Stornaway Ave roundabout has back fired for Stockland. The original plan was to bore under the roundabout for the sewer upgrade pipe laying thus leaving the roadway open for use by motorists.
What was unknown at the planning stage was the range of obstacles in the way of the boring machine. On one day the bore became stuck on three different occasions requiring it be dug up each time. Subsidence was another issue according to Stockland.
Stockland has been left with no other option than to abandon the boring and use an open cut method to complete the pipe laying. To do this traffic heading south along Bellvista Blvd has been detoured onto Indigo Rd and through Bells Reach.
Hopefully the Bellvista Blvd south bound lane should be reopened some time Wednesday. Some restrictions will remain for traffic wishing to continue along the Bellvista Blvd extension down to Arbour.
By Monday Nov 23rd all roadwork should be completed and all traffic lanes reopened, weather permitting.
A large carpet snake has been spotted numerous times just near the foot bridge where the top and bottom lakes join just near the Bellvista Meeting Place. He is harmless but we urge that people take care there at all times. Sunny skies and water are renowned conditions for snake activity.
