From Councillor Grosskreutz:
The problem of car and boat sales on Caloundra Road at the Bellvista Roundabout is about to be addressed by the Sunshine Coast Council and the Main Roads Department.
Council met with Main Roads Department, Queensland Transport and Queensland Police last week to discuss ways of discouraging roadside vending on this busy section of road.
It was decided that Main Roads Department will install bollards, and Council will assist in the beautification of the site, through the planting of native shrubs and other landscaping.
Division 1 Councillor Anna Grosskreutz said she was to see progress at last on this ongoing issue.
“My office has received numerous complaints over the past year about this area becoming an eyesore,” Cr Grosskreutz said.
“As this is the gateway into Caloundra from the Bruce Highway, I shared the resident’s dismay at the unacceptable use of this roadside as a makeshift caryard.
“This project will not only clean up the area, but it will also improve safety for motorists using this busy stretch of road.”
Cr Grosskreutz said she had been prepared to find the funds to improve the site, but is pleased that the Queensland Government has come to the party.
Works will commence as soon as possible.
