BeCA President Les Thomas was recently interviewed by Sunshine Coast ABC Radio. The radio interview was requested to discuss issues involving roads in this area and the impact the staggering growth in Baringa and Caloundra South has had.
It provided an opportunity for your Community Association to push again publicly for the bringing forward of planning of a new connecting road between the new Burke St and Pelican Waters Blvd currently under construction. It appears the intersection will be constructed as a roundabout. In the future (around 2031) there will be another new connecting road to join Pelican Waters Blvd and Aura Drive in Baringa from this roundabout. The date 2031 was used as it was about at that time planners had expected the Bells Creek Arterial to finally completed connecting Caloundra Rd with the Bruce Hwy. Current population growth and land sales rates now have brought that completion date forward by at least 6 years.
BeCA is keen to see the planning of the new road road connecting Pelican Waters Blvd and Aura Blvd undertaken now rather than in 2025 as currently planned. A Bells Creek Arterial predicted completion date of 2031 has already been brought forward to 2015 as Caloundra South House block sales have increased beyond expectations. Bells Creek Arterial is a staged construction timetable dependent on Caloundra South new property sales. As more properties sell, then Bells Creek Arterial is extended to meet the demand of new residents.
As sales progress so well beyond expectations, the 2025 completion date may already be under further review.
It is almost 12 months since the bushfires were upon our doorstep. Proposed roads would add further escape pathways for those under threat of any bushfire.
BeCA is hopeful of again pushing this case with Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey at a proposed meeting later this year. BeCA is hopeful the meeting will be a public meeting and will invite input from the community.
