BeCA has received the following response from the Caloundra Airport Operations Technical Officer on helicopter queries BeCA had made to Sunshine Coast Airport Management . Caloundra is an ‘open’ airport and is available for use by most aircraft, not only those based there. These ‘outsider’ aircraft using airspace around Caloundra Airport are NOT bound by the “Fly Neighbourly Agreement”. BeCA has also heard from Chopperline that it was definitely not any of their aircraft which were involved with any activity outside the “Fly Neighbourly Agreement” guidelines.
Thank you for your correspondence received by this office on 21st November 2011 via Cr Anna Grosskreutz’s office.
I have spoken to flight operations at Chopperline who are the main helicopter training facility at Caloundra Aerodrome and they have confirmed with me that they did not have any aircraft operating outside of the Fly Neighbourly Agreement times on the dates mentioned.
They have also confirmed that they have received direct calls from different Caloundra community groups in regards to the days and times mentioned and have already informed the residents making the enquiries that their aircraft were not operational at the times and days nominated in the complaints.
Senior Operations staff from Chopperline who live locally have reported to me that they have also heard what appeared to be a “mid-sized” helicopter operating between 02:00 & 03:00 one morning last week and after 22:00 on several nights over the past weeks.
Chopperline have made their own enquiries with other tenants on the aerodrome and all have confirmed that they were not operating on the days and times mentioned, this information from the tenants at Caloundra Aerodrome would lead me to believe that the aircraft involved must be an itinerant from Archerfield, Redcliffe or Caboolture Aerodromes.
In order to identify the offending aircraft any additional information in regards to aircraft description or rego would be greatly appreciated in order to narrow down the scope of our investigations.
Thank you for taking the time to bring this enquiry to our attention, we are continuing to work with the Caloundra tenants in regards to ensuring the Fly Neighbourly Agreement is honoured and also identifying itinerant aircraft that are in breach of this agreement.
