A resident contacted BeCA early today regarding what procedure could be taken to report inappropriate behaviour of a helicopter which woke her several times overnight. BeCA passed on the agreed Caloundra Airport contact phone number to the resident and she made her complaint.
The resident then contacted BeCA again and said the had contacted a person (Quote) “at the number you gave me and she said she is not aware of any helicopter flights last night and suggested I ring the ‘air police’, ASA on 1800 802 584. I did not feel she showed any interest at all. I have now rung ASA and spoken with a lovely man called Jack who thanked me for ringing and said call any time. However he was in Sydney and had no idea why helicopters might be flying in our area at those times. He said it will go into their report.”
Some follow up information indicates the aircraft may have been the Rescue Helicopter. BeCA has requested confirmation of this from Sunshine Coast Airport Management.
Later a second resident contacted BeCA saying they had been woken around 4:30 am by a helicopter flying over the Bellvista Estate. It was described as a small dark blue helicopter. Though not overly clear, the resident took a photo this morning as the helicopter flew over head at around 4:50 am. Click on the photo for a larger view.
BeCA is seeking clarification from Sunshine Coast Airport Management on the company which operates this second helicopter sighted this morning. The Fly Neighbourly Agreement says flying times for helicopters should not begin before 7 am.
