It is hoped the new net will be treated with respect and that youngsters will refrain from sitting on it. This behaviour causes the the heavy wire supporting and tensioning the net to come apart under the strain.
This will be great news for local tennis players who will again have access to this free tennis court facility.
A suggestion has been forwarded whereby a Bellvista/Bells Reach Tennis Club be formed and take over caring for the net. That is, anyone wishing to have a hit up would be required to get the net from storage, put it up and then take it down and put it back into storage again when finished.
Others believe that this would discourage the casual hitter from bothering to even have a hit at all.
The SC Council workers were also planning to remove the basketball hoop for repairs. It has become quite rusted at the back and would collapse should someone swing on it. It is hoped the hoop will be back in full action in a fortnight or so.
Repairs have also been carried out on repairing sections of the wire fencing surrounding tennis court area.
