Every two or three years, Sunshine Coast Council arranges for all lakes under its control to have lilies and other plant life removed/harvested to help prevent the waterways becoming clogged. The growth of lilies and the like slow flushing during heavy rain and lend the lakes to becoming polluted. Removing growth also helps to disperse ‘red azolla’.
As the photo shows the two lakes at Canavan Gracie Recreation Park have had their clean, and despite looking a little muddy, are clear of most of the plant growth.
The lakes should remain healthy in the short term and continue to be a magnificent feature of Bellvista.
