It’s that time of the year again when bike riders and pedestrians alike need to keep a wary eye out for swooping magpies. There are a couple of hot spots around where they need to be aware of the troublesome magpies. Previously the roundabout at Dumbarton Drive and Bellvista Blvd has been an area where one needed to keep an eye out but this spot seems a little quieter this year. Either that or the magpie has moved to midway along Bellvista Blvd between Dumbarton and Stornaway.
And it doesn’t matter which side of the road you are on, this guy keeps a close eye on both sides and can give walkers but especially bike riders a torrid time.
Experience indicates the good old lengthy cable ties attached to your helmet can be enough to ward of strikes as such. Larger cable ties waver in the breeze and sunlight reflected of the shiny plastic tends to create a flashing effect and tends to make the attacking bird have second thoughts.
Let BeCA know of any other hot spots about and we can post them online. Though not in our area, another spot is on the veloway along Bells Creek Arterial just before Pierce Avenue.
