A resident has reported that her children have been swooped by a magpie on their way to school. The incident has occurred near Bellcarra Retirement Resort and the ‘new’ unit development on the western side of Lomond Cres/Minker Rd. At this stage activity seems to be limited to children rather than adults.
This report was brought to our attention via the BeCA Facebook page (HERE).
One of our Committee members is a regular daily bike rider around the estate and has ridden through the same area this morning without incident. It may be that the magpie’s behaviour is geared towards children, possibly as a result of some child throwing stones at it. Therefore the magpie may be aggressive towards children rather than adults.
BeCA advises that children should not throw stones at aggressive magpies as this will only make it worse for other students.
