Further to concerns raised at a recent BeCA Management Committee Meeting regarding safety on our local roads, there are stories coming through of a child being hit by a vehicle (described as a truck in early reports we have received) near the Community Garden in Bells Reach.
The loud helicopter noise heard this morning was reported as the Emergency Helicopter taking the injured child to hospital in Brisbane.
It does appear speed was not involved but that possibly the child rode onto the road into the direct path of the vehicle.
Update: It appears the child was hit by a truck which was delivering plumbing supplies to a local house building site from a local supplier. The child is in a serious condition and has been airlifted to the Lady Cilento Hospital with life threatening injuries.
We ask parents to remind their children of the simple road safety rules, of looking left and right before crossing any road, of being alert, and to wear a helmet if riding a bike, scooter, skate board or the like.
BeCA sincerely hopes the child will be OK and urges all drivers and road users to exercise extreme care.
Earlier this week BeCA sought clarification from Stockland regarding some large trucks recently moving through local streets. BeCA has been assured that any trucks used by Stockland would have been involved in asphalting new road surfaces. These trucks had been unable to use the Haul Road as it was unavailable for a short time.
However one resident reported this morning that a large white truck with something like “Water Carting and Tipping” written on the truck door was travelling along Bellvista Blvd and was spotted entering the new Stockland development near Arbour. Another very large truck from the same contractor with what appeared to be a load of topsoil was spotted in Indigo Road
There have been several reports from residents of large trucks using Bellvista Blvd at the moment.
We urge all road users to take extreme care.
Road Safety around our estates will be a major focus when Stockland and BeCA join forces as a focus for the next BeCA Public Meeting to be held at Bellvista Meeting Place on Monday June 6th.
