Member for Caloundra, Mark McArdle today said that increasing the number of flights out of Caloundra Aerodrome would be the beginning of the end of the site.
“We already have Maroochydore Aerodrome which is the major aircraft facility on the Sunshine Coast and to increase the number of flights out of Caloundra Aerodrome would be the start of its demise.
“Caloundra aerodrome is located close to Bellvista and if Bellvista 2 is given the go ahead, it is even closer. Any plans by the Council or State Government to allow an increase in the number of flights operating on a daily basis, is clearly the wrong decision.
“At a recent meeting I attended with operators on site, they made it very clear to Council officers, that any increase in flight numbers would be a disaster.
“What is needed is for complementary aircraft businesses, such as upholsterers to link in with existing services and providers across the Coast.
“What we don’t want are more aircraft flying over Bellvista. People in Bellvista have been very patient, but pushing flight numbers out even further to accommodate greater aircraft numbers would be wrong.
“When we consider the Aerodrome we need to look at it as a basis for complementary businesses not more aircraft” concluded Mr McArdle.
