An email has been received regarding the ‘car yard’ situated on Department Of Main Roads land on the corner of Bellvista Blvd and Caloundra Road. Some of the email can be seen below.
“The Department of Transport and Main Roads does not allow vehicles to be parked and advertised for sale within the state-controlled road corridor without a Road Corridor Permit. This is to ensure the safety of road users is maintained.
Under the Traffic Regulation 1962, the parking of a vehicle (or trailer) on the state-controlled road reserve for the purpose of advertising or sale is an offence and can incur a fine of up to $20,000.
The department is aware of this issue and is working with Sunshine Coast Regional Council to address the problem.
On-the spot fines can be issued by the department if a motorist is selling an un-registered vehicle, or a vehicle without a safety certificate displayed. The council has the authority to issue on-the-spot fines under local law.”
