That growth you can see growing on the surface of the lakes here at Bellvista is called Red Azolla.
It is a form of ‘floating fern’ which which effects many of the man made lakes on the Sunshine Coast. BeCA recently made an enquiry to SCRC regarding this issue in our lakes and they have indicated they will monitor this situation.
Netting and removal of this eye sore is not regularly undertaken by SCRC. However if the problem becomes extreme, SCRC may net again to clear the lake as a last resort.
