One of the cygnets was taken by Australia Zoo when it appeared to be injured. At this stage just the parents can be seen swimming quietly.
One of the parents was somewhat aggressive as the photo left was taken. However what has really happened to the cygnets is a mystery.
We do know the lake has large eels and these are known to feed on smaller birds. What we need is an eye witness who knows the full true story.
As indicated to BeCA previously, Australian Wetlands has been contracted by SCRC to carry out extensive weeding of the lakes and its shores. The workers were hard at it today removing inappropriate plants from the shores and the area to the west of the lake nearest Unity College.
BeCA has been told that when the weeding has been completed there will be a replanting of appropriate plants at the western end of the lakes.
